Warning

Signs your car needs diagnostics

Your engine is trying to tell you something. These signs mean it’s time to listen.
Light on

Check engine light is on or blinking

  • Solid Check Engine Light (Schedule Soon): This indicates a fault has been detected, such as a failing oxygen (O2) sensor, a dirty mass airflow (MAF) sensor, or even just a loose gas cap. It is generally safe to drive home or to our shop, but ignoring it will reduce your fuel efficiency and can cause further damage over time.
  • Flashing Check Engine Light (Pull Over Now): A blinking light is an absolute emergency. It means your engine is experiencing a severe, active misfire and is dumping unburned fuel into the exhaust system. Driving with a flashing light can destroy your expensive catalytic converter in a matter of minutes.
  • Loss of Power (Limp Mode): If the light comes on and your car suddenly struggles to accelerate or won’t shift gears, your computer has put the vehicle into “limp mode” to protect the engine from destroying itself.
Scan

What we find

We plug in the scanner, run the full test, and tell you what the computer found. No guessing. No surprises.
Scan

We read your engine's computer

  • Professional-Grade Scanners: We use high-end diagnostic tools that go far beyond basic code readers, allowing us to access manufacturer-specific data for all makes and models.
  • Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs): We extract the exact fault codes from your Engine Control Module (ECM), giving us a precise roadmap to begin our physical, under-the-hood inspection.
  • Freeze Frame Data Retrieval: Our scanners show us a snapshot of exactly what your car was doing the exact second the warning light triggered—including vehicle speed, RPMs, and engine temperature—helping us track down intermittent problems.
  • Live Sensor Monitoring: We stream real-time data from your engine while it’s running, monitoring vital signs like fuel trims, mass airflow readings, and oxygen sensor voltages to see how the engine is performing under load.
When

When to get it done

When to get it done Don’t wait for the problem to get worse. Catch it early and you’ll save money and headache.
Light

Check engine light is on

  • Minor Issues Becoming Major Repairs: A cheap, failing spark plug or ignition coil is an easy fix. If ignored, the resulting engine misfire will dump raw fuel into your exhaust and destroy your expensive catalytic converter.
  • Hidden Performance Drops: Even if the car “feels fine” to drive, an active check engine light usually forces your engine to run in a default, inefficient mode, costing you significantly more money at the gas pump.
  • Cascading Sensor Failures: Your engine’s sensors work together. A bad oxygen (O2) sensor or mass airflow (MAF) sensor can cause the engine to run too rich, which then fouls your spark plugs and clogs your exhaust system.
  • Sudden Breakdowns: That light is your early warning system for critical drivetrain components. Getting a diagnostic scan today prevents a sudden transmission failure or stalling issue on the highway tomorrow.
  • Resale and Emissions Issues: A vehicle with an active check engine light is polluting more than it should and will automatically fail any required provincial safety or emissions testing.

FAQ

No waiting on hold.

Why is my check engine light flashing?
A solid check engine light means you should schedule a diagnostic soon. A flashing check engine light means you have a severe, active engine misfire that can quickly destroy your catalytic converter or engine. Pull over safely and have your car towed to our shop immediately.
Can’t I just go to an auto parts store for a free code scan?
An auto parts store can read the basic OBD-II code (like “P0300 – Random Misfire”), but a code does not tell you what part is broken. It only tells you what system is registering an error. Our professional diagnostic includes the scanner reading plus a mechanic verifying the actual physical failure.
Will disconnecting the battery clear the check engine light?
While disconnecting the battery might temporarily turn off the light, the underlying problem is still there. As soon as the car’s computer runs its internal monitors again, the light will come right back on. It can also erase important freeze-frame data that helps us diagnose the problem.
How much does a vehicle diagnostic cost?
Our initial computer scan and inspection is reasonably priced and covers the first hour of diagnostic labor. If the issue requires extensive tear-down to find (like an internal electrical short), we will always provide a transparent quote before proceeding further.
